Hello!

My name is Mrs. Petkus and I am so excited to be your student's library teacher.  This is my second year at Denbo-Crichton Elementary.  I will be the first to tell you, I have the best job in the school!  I get to work with students from Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Each visit to the library, I learn what they like to read, what they want to learn more about, and their interests.  Together, we practice skills that make students independent library users.

My family is from Boston, Massachusetts (Go Red Sox!) but I spent half my childhood in upstate New York before moving to Hamilton, New Jersey when I was 12 years old.  My favorite subjects in elementary school were reading and social studies.  I graduated from The College of New Jersey with a degree in Early Childhood Education and Psychology.  I spent several years teaching preschool before getting married and starting a family.  In 2023, I began substitute teaching and fell in love with the school library.  I am currently researching graduate schools for my Masters in Library and Information Science.

I believe that we are all curious learners, especially young children.  It is my goal to teach them the skills they need to find the information they are looking for in the library.  This is an important skill that they will use throughout their lives.
