The Raider Competition, or "Raiders" as it is more commonly known, is a very popular athletic competition held within Junior ROTC programs around the United States. It is the Junior ROTC equivalent of the Army ROTC "Ranger" competition in college, only far less dangerous but very challenging as well! Our events are held outside at FT Dix, New Jersey, where other Pemberton HS Army JROTC events are held.
Our Raider team season begins at the end of January. All JROTC students can become members of the Raider team. We generally practice after school, allowing time to catch the late bus Monday through Thursday. It involves physical fitness and team-building events with the ultimate goal of forming a "Top Ten" team that competes in April every year in the South Jersey League (13 local high schools). If you place 1st or 2nd in the league competition, you may advance to the 2nd Brigade competition held in May. This is where you compete regionally against schools from the northeast United States.
The current 5 team events that constitute the Raiders are as follows: The Cross Country Rescue, The Gauntlet, The One-Rope Bridge, The 3 KM run, and The Raider Physical Challenge.
