Brief Description of the Need
There are currently greater than 15 female students who have been requesting a girl’s mentoring program following the launch of the young men’s mentoring program. In addition, many of the female freshman students want to continue in a mentoring program as they have in the middle school. Moreover, there are issues that directly affect women only and they desire to seek advice and guidance from the female faculty.
“L.O.C.K. aspires to provide empowerment programs to girls. We strive to enhance their lives through enrichment programs, products, workshops and events that serve and inspire individual advancement as well as team building. Our programs result in the increase of confidence, courage, educational, social-emotional, and personal development.”
Brief Description of Program
The goal of the L.O.C.K. mentoring program is to assist and guide female students in grades 9-12 in the areas of educational goal-setting, relationships, values, and self-worth by providing additional caring female adults in the life of our female students. L.O.C.K.’s mentoring sessions will occur after school at PTHS beginning at least twice monthly and increase depending upon the attendance/interest of the students.
Program Goals and Objectives
The goals of the L.O.C.K Mentoring Program are to increase academic performance, increase levels of self-efficacy, self-esteem, and decrease acts of risky behaviors. We will achieve this through surveys, team-building activities, workshops, and community collaboration.
