Leave of Absence

    • Leave of Absence (For Yourself)
Leaves for seven or more consecutive school days (even if you have sick days available) must be on file with Joshua Bentham in the Benefits Department. Failure to do so may jeopardize your employment status.

Family Leave  (For a seriously ill family member or to bond with a newborn)
The Pemberton Township Board of Education is a covered employer under the New Jersey Family Leave Act (“New Jersey FLA”) and the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). In general, these laws guarantee eligible staff members of Pemberton Township Schools the right to take unpaid leave for family and/or medical reasons without jeopardizing employee status.

Leave may be taken under FLA for the following reasons:

      • Childcare/Bonding
      • Adoption
      • Foster care placement
      • To care for a parent, child or spouse when that relative is unable to care for himself or herself due to a serious health condition.
      • FLA Fact Sheet

Leave may be taken under FMLA for all of the above reasons and also the following:

Serious health condition of the staff member that renders the staff member unable to perform the functions of the staff member's job.

Health insurance will be paid by the district for up to 12 weeks for Child Care Leave, Medical Leave or caring for an ill family member.
