Hello! I am excited to work with your children this school year. Welcome back to my returning students and welcome to all new students!
A little about me: I graduated from Rutger's University in 2001 and I have my BA in Psychology as well as my General Education and Special Education certifications. I started teaching at a special needs summer camp the summer I graduated and I then went on to teach at an out of district special needs school in a 4th grade classroom for 2 years as I continued my education at Rowan University. In the evenings and weekends, I began working with children with Autism in their homes as a VB (Verbal Behavior) therapist and found the children that I truly enjoyed working with. I started working in Pemberton Township Schools in 2003, first as a 5th grade inclusion teacher, but finding my home in the Preschool Disabled class the following year. I then helped to transition the PSD class to an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) class to help best meet the needs of children with Autism and/or other special needs. This classroom gives more opportunity for individualized and sensory based teaching. I have been teaching this Preschool ABA class since 2005.
On a personal note, I have been married for 17 years and I have a 13 year old daughter. She was born at 26 weeks, weighing 1 pound 5 ounces and had a 10 month stay in the NICU. She has many medical issues, but has come so far! Sending my daughter off to school many years ago really made me realize how hard it can be to let go! I understand that it may be difficult to send your child off to school for the first time. Especially when your child may not have the language to come home and tell you about their day. I understand how important it is to have communication with your child's teacher, so please call and email to check in anytime! I send home a daily sheet detailing what your child worked on at school as well as their responses to the lessons. You will also receive an invitation to Class Dojo to receive pictures and updates as to what your children are learning!
