• Mission Statement

AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

    What is AVID?

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. Regardless of their life circumstances, AVID students overcome obstacles and achieve success. They graduate and attend college at higher rates, but more importantly, they can think critically, collaborate, and set high expectations to confidently conquer the challenges that await them. In 47 states across the U.S., educators are driving student success through engaging, rigorous, and student-centered learning environments.

About the AVID Program at HFMS

Although AVID serves all students, it focuses on the least served students in the academic middle. The formula is simple - raise expectations of students and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge. What differentiates AVID from other educational reform programs is its astounding success rate. AVID is implemented in more than 6,400 schools in 47 states across the U.S., plus schools in DoDEA, Canada, and Australia. AVID impacts 2 million students in grades K–12 and 50 postsecondary institutions.
