My name is Norm Adams, and it is my honor to serve the Browns Mills community as the Principal of the Isaiah Haines Lower Elementary School! As you may be aware, the wonderful faculty and staff of Haines School, myself included, transitioned here from the former Aletta Crichton School, where I served as the Principal for ten years. Although our physical location may have changed, the one thing that has not changed or wavered is our commitment to providing a high quality education to our young learners.
At Haines School, we take great pride in implementing programs that will ensure their success, and create well rounded individuals academically, socially and emotionally. We use a number of effective, research proven programs to facilitate their learning, including the literature based reading program "Ready-Gen", "Go Math", and "Fundations", an early intervention phonemic awareness program that is designed to reduced reading and spelling difficulties. The W.I.N. (What I Need) period is time set aside each day to specifically focus on the academic needs of each individual student. Character Education, a district wide initiative, is also an integral part of our students' learning experience at Haines, as we focus daily on our five core values; Service, Perseverence, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility.
We at Haines School recognize the importance of parents as partners in their child's learning, and strive to maintain solid relationships with our families and our community at large. Throughout the school year, we proudly host activities that encourage parental involvement such as our new "Flashdads" and Minute Moms" program, in which parents provide periodic flashes of encouragement for our young learners as they begin their day. Family Science Night, Family Literacy Day, Pastries With Parents, Bedtime Stories and Breakfast With Santa are additional events which provide opportunities for family bonding. Our wonderful PTO proudly sponsors many of these events, and I would encourage all of our families to become involved!
Finally, a little about me. I have been a professional educator for over 25 years. I began my career in education as a fourth grade teacher in the Jersey City Public School system. I went on to teach various other elementary grade levels during my tenure there, before moving on to the Trenton Public School system, where I taught middle school Language Arts and Social Studies. My administrative career began shortly thereafter in Hamilton Township (Mercer County), where I served as a Vice Principal at Hamilton High School West prior to my appointment as a Principal in Pemberton Township. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the College of New Jersey. I am the proud father of two sons, ages 16 and 14.
