The Competition
     The event tests students on their knowledge of the heart, lungs and vascular system. Dr. Betsy Schloo, Dr. John Cooper and Dr. Edmund Karam of Deborah Heart and Lung Center quiz students in four exciting rounds, finishing with rapid-fire questions.
The Judges
  Betsy Schloo, MD, FCAP, FASCP
Chair, Department of Pathology

Dr. Schloo has served as Chair of Pathology and Director of the Clinical Laboratory at Deborah Heart and Lung Center since 1989.  She is board certified in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology, and has been active in academic and subspecialty practice since 1985. Dr. Schloo has published and presented widely on various subjects relating to heart and lung disease in adults and children.


  John H. Cooper, DO, FACOS
Attending Vascular Surgeon
 

Dr. Cooper is a graduate of Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is double board certified in general and vascular surgery.  Dr. Cooper specializes in endovascular surgery, complex lower extremity revascularization, venous disease and wound care. He is currently the Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship program at Deborah.


 

Edmund T. Karam, MD, FACC, FHRS
Attending Cardiac Electrophysiologist
 

Dr. Karam graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and  Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Karam completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a second fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at New York University Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.
